About H. L. Clausing Inc.

The company was founded in 1927 by Leroy M. E. Clausing. Leroy was a radio engineer who built Many of the early radio stations in America. These stations included WBBM in chicago and KSTP in minneapolis.

Leroy was also an amateur astronomer. Upon studying the work of John Strong regarding evaporated metal mirror coatings, Leroy began to experiment with the process himself. This ultimately led him to leave the radio business and begin focusing entirely on optical coatings.

The business has continued on for three generations of the Clausing family. Since 1989 it has been owned by Howard L. Clausing under the Name H. L. Clausing inc.

Howard graduated from Illinois Institute of Technology in 1985 with a B.S. In physics. He started coating mirrors at only 10 years old. Over the years, he has designed coatings for hundreds of unusual and interesting applications.
